Self-control is vital for self-improvement. The key to achieving a fitness goal or staying sober is controlling our impulses. Practicing self-control is like going to the gym. The more you do it, the easier it gets, and the stronger your willpower becomes.
Consistently practicing self-control shifts your brains’ reward center to make you feel good about yourself when you don’t give in to bad habits.

Many people find self-control difficult because it is easy to give in to our desires and vices. However, the happiness that comes from giving in to our impulses is short-lived and replaced with negative emotions like, shame, regret, or self-loathing.
Consistently practicing self-control becomes the reward. Knowing you were able to resist temptation gives you long term happiness, increased feelings of self-worth and accomplishment. This state of mind is habit-forming and is how self-control becomes easier over time.
