Mental health is often overlooked, yet it is one of the foundations of who we are as a person. It’s recommended to get a yearly physical check-up with a doctor to make sure that our blood pressure, cholesterol, body fat percentage, etc. are all at acceptable levels. These metrics can be kept at a healthy range with proper diet and exercise. If you’re fat, you need to lose weight. If you have high cholesterol you need to change your diet. But what do you do if you’re physically fit, but mentally unwell? What actions can you take to fortify and improve your mental health?
Depression is a normal emotion, that we are all capable of experiencing, and it is normal to be happy or sad for no specific reason. Human emotions don’t require logic. The problem is if you get stuck on one side of the emotional spectrum. Mentally you need to be in a balanced state of mind, where you are neither permanently happy or permanently sad, but able to express the full range of emotions in a healthy way.
Like physical health, there are exercises and techniques that you can do to improve your mental health. To learn more about mental health training contact Milestone Health & Wellness HERE.
